“The one who works with hands is a worker, the one who works with hands and the head is a craftsman, while the one who works with hands, the head and the heart is an artist.”
This is the guiding principle of Dušanov Dokic who run Belgrade-based DD Handmade Shoes. In 1999 Dušanov went to Italy for his training and there he worked as a designer for well known international fashion companies such as Moschino, Kenzo and Louis Vuitton. However, he missed Belgrade and wanted to go back and make to something on his own. He started up his small scale shoemaking shop as a hobby and out of passion for luxury shoes, but it soon turned into a full time profession and Dusan now makes between 50 and 60 pair of shoes a year. All his shoes are handlasted and made to measure. The materials are imported from Italy and the leathers is exclusively calf in natural colors, which are painted by hand. Every pair bears a stamp with the buyer`s surname, which contributes to its uniqueness.
