Maftei is a family of shoe-artisans established in Vienna. The Maftei family makes bespoke shoes in third generation. All shoes are bespoke, made on the customers' personal lasts. The shoes are hand-stitched or wood-pegged.

The story of Maftei started in a little village in Romania, when Alexandru Maftei became a shoemaker apprentice in his uncle's workshop in the 1960s. Alexandru fled from the communist regime to Austria in the late 80s where later he and his wife Lucia had the privilege to work for Austria's legacy bespoke shoemaker Rudolf Scheer & Soehne. In 1996 Alexandru opened his workshop in Vienna together with his wife Lucia and his children Alina, Lucian, Roxana and Alex jun. In 2000 Lucian Maftei, Alexandru's eldest son opened his own atelier in the first district of Vienna. Today, the Maftei family has an international clientele due to their variety in styles, their flexibility  and individual service.

The Maftei family offers an in-house measuring service and participates at various trunk shows in cities such as Bucharest, Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Moscow, Stockholm, Oslo, Boston and New York.
