The owner Yuuko Kiyohara decided to become a shoemaker while she was studying Japanese art at university. After she studied abroad in the UK, she trained under Shozo Makita. She opened her own workshop Gen after three years of training.
She started to make her own dresses, but she was annoyed that she didn't have any shoes that matched the outfits she made. She noticed that the best solution was to also make the shoes by herself. She now hand-makes shoes for both women and men of all ages.
